The Universe and I

You keep moving in the same direction, and I- No, I keep going against the gravitational pull. I keep trying to make you spin the other way or at least spin faster in the same direction if you insist on being stubborn. However, that amazement, that “awe factor,” seems missing. When I’m told that I’m not enthusiastic enough or grateful enough, I feel the Universe is not giving me enough fuel to light my fire ablaze. No one is ever satisfied with my answer. When I’m told that I shouldn’t mention my weaknesses and my illnesses to anyone, lest they see me as weak and not take me seriously, or that my casual attitude in the workplace might look like I’m not knowledgeable in my profession. I wonder if maybe the Universe might reconsider the definition of “learned and knowledgeable.” I’m not particularly eager to conform to norms that seem illogical. The

Universe then throws a tantrum and tells me to grow up and behave like a professional. I don’t break any rules, so the “behavior” that’s unacceptable is my personality. Thanks, Universe!

I have a question for the Universe, who is the King of the Worlds that decides these petty little things like customs and norms? Who declared that all souls must be uniform in thought and action? I’d wish to file a complaint, please. The upside of the Universe is not always my upside. I look at things and issues crooked, sideways, and upside-down. You never know what you’ll find. That’s where all the excitement is waiting. As Edgar Allen Poe said, “There is no beauty without strangeness.”

Unfortunately, there are others with chips in their molding. There are many out there that the Universe fails to amuse and amaze every day, and we keep “turning against the spin” listen, we are not changing or bending. We were not forged that way. So, either we keep grinding against each other, or YOU give up and let us in.

Into your hearts, into your minds, into your love, into acceptance that there isn’t always just one way of being. Into the knowledge that existing with oddballs like us might be fun cause we are a good time.
