Ret. Major Gen. Gagan Deep Bakhshi of the Indian Military and Indian American author and intellectual Rajiv Malhotra discussing China and Pakistan relations. I didn’t hear anything about the said topic to phone home about; however, I have been noticing that the Indian government, analysts, and just about every noise coming out of our neighboring country is brazenly claiming that Pakistan as a whole is an “Islamist” country.
Mr. Malhotra’s claim that Saudi Arabia does not accept Pakistanis as one of their own, which somehow makes us less Muslim, is absurd. I am also shocked that both these wise men do not comprehend a religion that is practiced by over 15% of the Indian population and is the fastest-growing religion in their country, with a growth rate of almost 30 percent. The roots of Islam are not tied to a place or a person/people. Our identity is bound to the Quran and Sunnah. No one can give us that, and no one can take it away except for God.
Mr. Malhotra thinks that Pakistanis disown their history because they don’t want to accept that they come from India. As a learned man, I am embarrassed for him. I can’t imagine he has not read up and researched the rich Muslim history coming out of South Asia and the Sub-Continent and the pride we take in it as Muslims as South Asians, Indians, and Pakistanis. If not for the Imperialists colonizing our land, the Hindus, Muslims, Sikhs, and Christians of the sub-continent would be doing okay, in my opinion, even with all our problems.
Speaking of Colonialism, what it boils down to is that the Indian government is taking a page out of the handbook of their ideological allies: the zionists. India’s ruling party has realized that what Israel is doing has worked. They discredited Palestine and Palestinians’ struggles on the world stage by calling them terrorists and violent for fighting back their oppression. As a result, today, Zionists became Nazis themselves.
India’s governments have been administrating this tactic in Kashmir since the conception of Pakistan, only now they are louder about it. They claimed they were dealing with terrorist and insurgent groups, so curfews, control, and strict security on essentials such as medical supplies, food, and even water were necessary. Kashmiris must go through checkpoints and need documentation to receive care or outside help. Sound familiar?
The Israeli government is now expelling more and more Palestinians from their homes and their jobs to make room for settlers. Reports say Indian workers are filling those jobs. According to the Israeli Newspaper Haaretz, the Israeli government has asked their counterparts on the other end to make sure not to send them Muslim workers.
Major Gen. Bakhsi and Mr. Malhotra may be more aware than I’m giving them credit, I suppose. I am not saying all Indians or all Hindus. I am not spreading hate, far from it. I am spreading the opposite of that. I don’t want to call it love or peace. One can’t be in love or in peace with people who start with hate, one can be in silence and in indifference with those who have decided without knowing us and trying to be allies that they want to harm us.
I’m spreading caution. I’m talking of learning your friends from your foes. I’m trying to teach about glitter from gold. After this if we still choose to stay on the fence. Even now if we choose to not hold on tight to the right side of the fight, then we have no one but ourselves to blame because there is no clearer indication of what is waiting for us ahead.
