I shouldn’t have to write about this. I shouldn’t have to say that a guy who has a pending sexual harassment case against him should not be winning any awards. I shouldn’t have to say that he should not be acknowledged for anything until he is absolutely cleared from all of his allegations in all courts of law and we are completely sure that he did not commit the crimes he is accused of. Which, if I have to give my opinion, he seems pretty guilty of.
Just yesterday I wrote about the resilience of my people, I wrote about the greatness of our ancestors. I remember hearing stories from men and women who lived through those days that we are celebrating right now.
What has always struck me as the bravest and beautiful is the resilience and greatness of the women of Pakistan. The sacrifices they made during the independence of Pakistan are undeniable. Not just that they are undeniable, they are unmatched. The bravery, the heroism isn’t talked about but if we talk to these women and look at the history they held everyone together they helped the movement and the history in a way that men alone could have never been able to.
Today giving a man who disrespects women and treats them the way he has been accused of treating them is disrespecting the women of our nation. It’s disrespect for the memory of our ancestors and the sacrifices of all the mothers and daughters of the nation.
Shame on those who made this horrific decision.
